The Amaterasu register

This pack draws on Amaterasu, the sun goddess of Shinto myth, as shrine painting rendered her coming out of the cave: the mirror, the jewels, the rock door, the first light on the sacred mountain, the twelve-layered robe. The value is a sun disc for a halo — light seeming to come from her rather than fall on her.

Photographically the register runs black cave-dark broken by a halo of light, gold-on-cedar-red at the shrine's dawn stair, and warm side-lit gold in a weaving hall — the palette holds gold, vermilion, white, and dawn throughout, so the three looks read as one goddess across three real moments of the myth.
