The Frozen Sea register
The deepest lake in the world, in March, is frozen a metre thick in clear turquoise ice cracked into great plates, with methane bubbles caught in columns and ice caves hung with icicles along the rocky shore. The pack puts the limnologist on that ice. Every value is turquoise ice, from clear white to deep glacial, and a turquoise down coat over a white knit joins the lake.
