The Pierrot on the Island register

Porquerolles, the pine-and-rock island off the Var coast, is where a 1965 film ran its lovers aground. The pack takes the film's one colour: a blue cotton shirt open at the chest, blue trousers rolled at the ankle and bare feet on white limestone, the whole frame dyed from the sky's pale to the cove's deep ultramarine.

Three settings, three photographs each: before the blue cove with a paperback's edge in the pocket, seated on a limestone rock with one bare foot on the stone, and at the rock's edge with the umbrella pines and the sea behind. The sun is hard and bright from above and one side, so the shadow side stays crisp and each eye carries a catchlight.

What comes out is photographic: nine photos of you, three in each of three settings, in the look of the island of Porquerolles. The place and the wardrobe are borrowed as a setting; the photos are portraits of you, not pictures taken there.
