This pack draws on the Nasrid-emir register — a white turban with a jewelled ornament, a red-and-gold brocade kaftan over a white robe, a jewelled Nasrid sword with an ivory hilt, a fur-lined cloak. The palette runs Nasrid red and gold, stucco cream, cypress green, Sierra snow, and blue tile — the vocabulary of the last emir of Granada, young, richly dressed, and defeated at the close of eight centuries of al-Andalus.

Three situations carry the register: standing beside the lion fountain in the Alhambra's arcaded court, slender columns and lace stucco behind; mounted on a black horse below the Alhambra with the snow Sierra behind, holding a great iron key toward the lens; standing on a mountain pass looking back at the city and its walls in a wide valley.
