The Impenetrable Forest register

Bwindi grows on steep ridges and is called impenetrable: ancient trees hung with vines and moss, tree ferns, mist in the valleys, tea plantations at the forest's edge and a timber lodge on a ridge. The pack dresses the ecologist in the green her forest closes itself in, a deep green waxed jacket over a sage knit, every value from pale mist to deep vine shadow.

She stands before vine-hung foliage, rests a hand on the lodge's timber rail with forest ridges soft beyond, and then stands on the ridge path for a half-length view, the forest falling away into mist and the clipped green of tea at its edge. The light is dim and green, from one side, with a catchlight in each eye.
