The Bawa white register
Colombo's tropical modern houses, many by the architect Geoffrey Bawa, are built of lime-white walls, polished cement floors and deep verandas that draw the monsoon's light through shade. A courtyard holds a frangipani and a reflecting pool. An Ayurvedic clinic in one of these houses takes its colour from the walls.
