The Curonian Spit register
The Curonian Spit is a long thin spit of sand between the Baltic and a lagoon, with the highest drifting dunes in Europe rolling bare and pale for miles, pine forest on the lagoon side and a bird-ringing station where millions of migrating birds pass each autumn. The pack dresses the ornithologist in that sand: a sand-coloured canvas jacket over an oatmeal knit, every value from pale cream to warm shadow.
