The Creek Wine register
The Dubai Creek on the Deira side is the old working water, with dhows whose dark hulls are timber. The register is wine: the scrubs' burgundy cotton, the hulls' red-brown timber, a wine-painted ward door and the dusk's red on the water sit in one colour family, and the face is the only other colour.
The light is the creek's warm low dusk, from the window or the water's reflection, with the shadow side half-open and a catchlight in each eye.
