The Fallera register

In March Valencia fills its squares with towering figures for the Fallas, and the falleras walk among them in brocade silk dresses, hair coiled at the ears and pinned with gold combs. The dress is the city's pride. The pack puts a woman in one, in ivory, rose, gold and green.

The frames run from the hair and combs and the brocade at the bodice, to a chest-up in the square with stone soft behind, to a half-length in which the silhouette of the dress is read whole. The silk carries all four colours, the combs are gold, and the stone of the square holds the ivory. The light is bright spring light.

The pictures are photographic. Valencia and the dress are borrowed as a setting; the portraits are of you, not photographs taken at Fallas.
