The Great Stone Walls register

Great Zimbabwe is the ruin of a medieval African city: a great enclosure of dry-stone granite walls eleven metres high and curving, a conical tower, a hill complex among granite boulders, aloe and msasa trees. The pack dresses the archaeologist in the stone a kingdom built its walls from without mortar: a grey linen suit over a dove silk blouse, every value from pale lichen to dark shadowed course.
