The Blue Agave Fields register
In the highlands west of the second city, blue agave grows in rows across red earth, each plant a spiky rosette of blue-grey. A distillery of stone and brick stands among the fields with a chapel beside it, a volcano rises behind, and the light is dry and golden. The pack puts the distillery director in the rows.
He wears a slate-blue linen suit over a pale grey-blue shirt, and the blue-grey holds in every value from pale silver to deep slate. He stands before a bank of agave, rests a hand on a block of the distillery's stone wall with the rows soft beyond him, and at half-length stands at the field's edge with the rows running behind him over red earth toward the volcano. The light is dry and golden, from one side, with a specular on the brow and a catchlight in each eye.
What comes out is photographic: nine photos of you, three in each of three settings, in the look of the agave fields. The place and the wardrobe are borrowed as a setting; the photos are portraits of you, not pictures taken there.
How to photograph yourself for a director headshot
Better source photos make better portraits. An ordinary phone photo is enough, and a few habits sharpen the likeness.
- Even, soft lightStand near a window with daylight on your face. Avoid overhead bulbs and phone flash, which flatten a face.
- Front or three-quarter angleCamera at eye level, facing it or turned slightly. No shot from below, no stretched arm.
- Face fully clearHair off the face, no sunglasses and no filters. A clear, front-facing phone photo is the best starting point.
- A calm, direct lookA relaxed, attentive expression in your source photo carries over best into the finished portraits.
- A plain background is fineDo not worry about your own backdrop. The pack replaces it entirely.
