The Rotklinker register
The setting is Eppendorf, a Hamburg district of red clinker. The practice is in a 1920s brick building with dark red brick in a patterned bond, beside the Isebek canal, with the grey of the Alster beyond. Clinker is a hard-fired brick, and the oxblood tone of this one carries the Hanseatic city's red. The palette is red throughout: the brick's deep oxblood, a brick-red wool overcoat over a rust lambswool, and the wet brick by the canal.
