The Leather atelier portrait register

The Saddler's Loft takes its world from the leather workshops on the north-east edge of Paris, where a bag is still sewn by one hand from start to finish. Long benches of pale oak, hides hanging on racks in every natural tan from oat to toasted bread, waxed linen thread, the two needles of the saddle stitch, and a tall north light through factory glass that flatters leather and skin alike.

Every colour in the pack is a tan. A tan suede shirt-jacket sits over a sand silk shirt, waxed thread loops at the collar, and the hide's clean cut edge draws the silhouette. She stands before a rack of hanging hides, rests a hand on a sheet of full-grain leather at the oak bench, and walks the long aisle of benches under the factory glass. The portrait is composed to the grain of the leather, with no lettering anywhere.
