The Housewarming Terrace register

A new apartment's terrace in April, terracotta pots, a terracotta-tiled floor, herbs newly planted. The host wears a terracotta linen shirt, in the picture taken before the first guests.

The pots, the tiles and the shirt share one clay colour, with the herbs' green held low, so linen, fired clay, tile and leaf stay apart by texture. Light is warm evening light. The three settings are a close frame before a wall of pots, a chest-up frame at the terrace rail, and a half-length frame on the tiled floor with the pots around.

What comes out is photographic: nine photos of you, three in each of three settings. The place and the wardrobe are borrowed as a setting; the photos are portraits of you, not pictures taken on a terrace.
