This pack is one of Icônes' documented-shoot series — fashion icons and the photographs that made them — the world of European cinema women, anchored on the Herald Tribune tee from À bout de souffle on the Champs-Élysées in 1960, the crop, and the Saint Joan sitting of 1957 — the New Wave's American, in the pictures that made her crop the most copied of the decade.
The register is Godard's hand-held daylight black-and-white and a suit of armour's steel-and-chainmail portrait: a Herald Tribune T-shirt, a cropped blonde head, a gorget and coif.
One frame walks her down the Champs-Élysées calling out newspapers, a stack under one arm. A second leans her at a café's zinc counter, chin in hand. A third poses her against a dark ground in a suit of armour's gorget and chainmail coif, the crop close beneath it.
