This pack is one of Icônes' documented-shoot series — fashion icons and the photographs that made them — the world of European cinema women, anchored on Jules et Jim's 1962 newsboy cap and painted moustache running on the bridge, the Cardin apartment of the mid-sixties, and the Ascenseur pour l'échafaud night walk of 1958 — the New Wave's grown-up, in the three pictures that hold her.
The register moves between Coutard's early-sixties black-and-white and Sieff's studio warmth: a striped jersey and tweed cap, a Cardin shift of dark wool, a trench coat at night with the hair damp.
One frame runs her across an iron footbridge in a striped jersey and newsboy cap, laughing back at the lens. A second seats her on a Cardin apartment's low leather sofa, cigarette held near the cheek.
