The wardrobe is documented mid-century dress: a mustard-and-rust calico with a brown wool waistcoat worn over it, a black velvet jacket over a white blouse for New York, a white dress with a red sash for the ball.

Photographically the register runs warm slanted attic gold into cold soft lavender dusk on a beach into candlelit parlour warmth for the dance — mustard, rust, ink black, and winter grey throughout, a girl writing in her own light.
