The Keats register

This pack draws on John Keats at Hampstead, 1818 to 1820 — the nightingale in the plum tree at Wentworth Place, the brown coat and loose cravat, Fanny Brawne next door, five foot nothing and the whole of autumn.

Photographically the register is dappled green-gold light in the garden, silver-gold light on the heath, and warm candlelight for the Rome window. The palette is brown, white, plum-tree green, candle and Roman ochre.

Three scenes carry the pack: seated under the plum tree with a book on the knee, the grey cloak blown on Hampstead Heath, and a white nightshirt at a Roman window with an unopened letter. Each is a genuine facet of the poet, not one coat in three rooms.
