The Madame Récamier register
This pack draws on Jacques-Louis David's unfinished 1800 portrait of Juliette Récamier — the salon on the rue du Mont-Blanc, white muslin on a méridienne, a bronze lamp and a bare grey wall, the picture famous for what it leaves out. The value is Neoclassical portraiture at its most-copied composition.
Photographically the register is cool even light for the méridienne, soft daylight for the salon, bright cool light for the garden; the palette runs white muslin, bronze, grey wall, cashmere cream, one accent of blue.
