This pack draws on the Florentine queen and regent of the 1620s at the Luxembourg palace she built for herself — the register Rubens painted her whole life into, warm, rich, and dark-grounded. A gown of black or deep blue velvet with a wide standing lace collar behind the head, a stomacher sewn dense with pearls and jewels, huge pearl earrings, hair dressed high with a jewelled aigrette, and a small crown.
