The Cave City register

Matera is the ancient town in the south of Italy whose houses are caves cut into a ravine's wall of pale tufa. They are stacked so that one house's roof is another's street, with churches carved into the rock and the whole hillside one colour of soft beige stone. The pack dresses a woman in that stone: a sand linen dress with a stone-coloured wrap.
