The May Morning register

At six on the first of May, Oxford gathers on Magdalen Bridge to hear the choir sing from the tower. Many have not been to bed: dinner jackets from the night before, bow ties hanging loose, the river under mist. The pack sets a man in exactly that hour.

The first picture is close at the parapet, the tower's gold stone soft behind him. The second is chest-up on the bridge with mist on the water. The third is half-length at the tower's foot. The light is cold and soft, dawn grey rather than gold, and the black of the jacket stands on it with wool, white cotton, stone and mist doing the separating.

The pictures are photographic. The bridge and the tower are borrowed as a setting; each portrait is of you, not a photograph taken in Oxford.

How to photograph yourself for this pack
