The summit of Mount Washington in New Hampshire has some of the worst weather on earth, and the wind grows rime ice in white feathers on every rail and instrument while observers live in shifts at the weather station. The pack puts the observer on that summit. The whole world is frosted to one colour, and a pale grey shell jacket with its hood down and a white knit cap join it.
