Petra is a city cut into rose-red sandstone cliffs at the end of a narrow gorge. A temple facade of columns and urns is carved from the rock, with caves and a theatre beside it, the stone banded in rose, salmon and rust. Sunlight reaches the gorge floor only near noon. A rose linen suit over a salmon silk blouse joins that banding.
