Pitti Tobacco takes Florence in January: Pitti Uomo at the Fortezza da Basso, the ochre bastion walls, the street-style scrum at the gate, and the discipline the peacocks perfected there — tobacco on tobacco, brown shirt under brown tie under brown suit. It is a menswear week, not a colour chip.

The wardrobe is tonal tailoring taken all the way down: a tobacco flannel three-piece with a tobacco shirt and a brown knit tie; a chocolate wool overcoat thrown over a camel-brown suit; a rust corduroy jacket with a brown roll-neck.
