The Roxana register

This pack draws on the Bactrian princess who married Alexander — the Sogdian rock fortress, the wedding of Susa, a tent of silk and gold on the road to India. The value is the Sogdian license itself: pattern on pattern, the colours never fewer than four.

Photographically the register runs cold gold light for the rock fortress, warm lamplight for the wedding hall, warm close light for the silk tent; the palette is saffron, rose, lapis, gold, mountain grey.
