The Tiong Bahru tile register

Tiong Bahru is a Singapore estate of 1930s Streamline Moderne blocks, with rounded balconies and shophouse threshold tiles in the Peranakan style. The pack takes the threshold's colours as its palette: white at about half the frame, sea green at a quarter, rose at a sixth and a thin cobalt.

The figure wears two of them: a white linen dress and a sea-green cotton jacket with a round collar. The rose and the cobalt stay in the tiles and in one shutter, never on the figure. The light is the tropics' bright overcast, broad and even, with a catchlight in each eye.
