The Spartan register

This pack draws on Thermopylae as 300 shot it — the crimson cloak, the bronze cuirass moulded like muscle, the lambda on the shield, the Hot Gates at first light. A spartan warrior photoshoot built on that cinematic register, not a generic gladiator-costume guess.

Photographically the register runs low, wide first light on the rocks of the Hot Gates with the cloak lifted by wind, golden-hour three-quarter light on the Eurotas at dusk, and black-and-crimson brazier light in the hall of the kings at night. The palette holds crimson, bronze, sea grey and rock; a bronze cuirass moulded like a torso, a crimson cloak, the round hoplon shield with its lambda, a crested Corinthian helmet, and greaves carry the silhouette — the license is the film's, every muscle a cuirass, the cloak never still.
