The Cardinale axis
Sweetwater Widow borrows Claudia Cardinale's role in Once Upon a Time in the West — the woman of the city arriving in a dust town, the only finished, luminous thing in an unfinished country. It's costume drama first: fitted 1870s travel silk against raw pine and flat horizon.
Three frames carry it. The station platform sets her among crates and steam, veil held against the wind. The homestead doorway puts her in black lace at the threshold of a sun-bleached timber house, mistress of a hard inheritance. The buggy through the buttes sends her through monumental red rock in an open carriage, parasol angled to the sun.
