The Route 66 motel register

Tucumcari in eastern New Mexico is a town on old Route 66 whose 1940s motels still glow at night with neon signs, each room with its own garage and a painted door. The pack dresses the owner in the motel's pair, turquoise neon and pink neon at matched saturation, turquoise the larger share: a turquoise cardigan over a pink cotton dress, with the sign's swooping arrow as the silhouette. The Route 66 neon portrait is lit by the glow at blue dusk.

She stands before the motel's turquoise doors with a pink neon tube glowing soft above her; she leans against a vintage car in front of a room's garage, arms loosely crossed; and she stands at the edge of the parking lot with the tall neon sign glowing turquoise and pink against the deep blue sky and the old highway empty. The signs stay wordless.

What comes out is photographic: nine photographs of you, three in each of three settings, set in the look of Tucumcari. The place and the wardrobe are borrowed as a setting; the photographs are portraits of you, not pictures taken on location.

How to photograph yourself for a motel owner portrait

Better source photos make better portraits. An ordinary phone selfie is enough, and a few habits sharpen the likeness.

  1. Even, soft lightStand near a window with daylight on your face. Avoid overhead bulbs and phone flash, which flatten a face.
  2. Front or three-quarter angleCamera at eye level, facing it or turned slightly. No shot from below, no stretched arm.
  3. Face fully clearHair off the face, no sunglasses and no filters. A clear, front-facing phone selfie is the best starting point.
  4. A warm, welcoming lookA friendly, assured expression in your source photo suits a woman who greets travellers at the door.
  5. A plain background is fineDo not worry about your own backdrop. The pack replaces it entirely.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a real photo taken in Tucumcari?
No. It is a portrait of you set in the look of Tucumcari, New Mexico. It is not a picture taken there.
Will it look like a real photograph?
Yes. Every photo is photoreal: a real-looking photograph of you in the look of Tucumcari, New Mexico, not a painting or a cartoon.
Why turquoise and pink?
They are the motel's neon, turquoise and pink at matched saturation. Turquoise leads, and the pair glows against the deep blue of dusk.
Is it right for a hotel or small business page?
Yes. It suits motel and inn owners, shopkeepers and any small roadside business, for a booking site, a listing page or a local press profile.
What are the three settings?
Before the motel's turquoise doors under a pink neon tube, leaning on a vintage car in front of a garage, and at the edge of the lot beneath the tall neon sign.
Is this pack for women?
The wardrobe and styling are cut for women, so the pack reads that way. Other packs on Narcis suit other looks.
Will the photos look like me?
Every photo looks like you, well photographed. If one is nearly right, say what to change, in your own words.
Do I have to write a prompt?
No. There is nothing to write: you pick a pack, and it is ready in seconds.
How many photos of myself do I add?
Between six and twenty, from different days and in different light, with your face clear. We check each one when you add it.
What happens to the photos I add?
They are used only to create your model, on our own servers in the European Union. They are not shared and not sold.
