The Venice February Fog register
Venice February Fog borrows Venice before the carnival crowds — fog on the lagoon, the water and sky one grey-green, the far churches gone, the mooring poles standing in nothing. The dressing is ton sur ton: a grey-green wool overcoat worn against a city the fog has erased into the same colour.
Photographically the register is fog light, shadowless and cool — no city at all, only grey-green air, with him as the one solid thing in it. The palette runs lagoon grey-green, fog, and weathered wood.
