The wild rice harvest register
Manoomin — wild rice — is harvested every September by the Anishinaabe across Great Lakes country, worked by everyone: one poling the canoe, one bending stalks with cedar knocking sticks. This pack sets a floral-beaded bandolier bag over wool, birchbark canoes, and cast-kettle parching fires against that real working rhythm.
Three frames carry it. In the rice beds, canoe deep in ripening manoomin, low sun through the rice heads. The parching fire, rice turning in a cast kettle at the lake's edge, maples firing red on the far shore. Morning glass, the lake absolutely still, the canoe loaded and low, paddle dripping gold rings — the harvest carried home through silence.
This is a mixed-cast pack — the harvest was worked by all, so the sample set carries both a man and a woman through the same three scenes, not a single gendered lead.
