Prussian blue reached Edo through Nagasaki and made Hokusai's Great Wave for the publisher Nishimura Eijudo — the woodblock printer's room, the carved cherry blocks, the baren, the paper dampened and stacked, the indigo-and-berlin-blue sky of the Thirty-six Views.
