The River Green register

Hoshinoya Kyoto is a ryokan reached only by boat, up a gorge at Arashiyama, with cedar timber, maple above and the river green below. The pack takes that gorge as its world: a green linen jacket, the maples green, the river green, the cedar warm, and a man standing in all of it.

Three framings carry it. Head and shoulders under maple with the river soft; chest-up on the terrace; half-length at the boat landing. The light is soft, the colour holds to green, and the figure is separated from the place by linen, leaf, water and cedar.
