The Bedford Falls register
This pack draws on Bedford Falls on Christmas Eve 1945 — a bridge in snow, the Building and Loan's counter, a drafty old house, a town running in with baskets of money. Capra's black-and-white, played straight.
Photographically the register is monochrome sentiment: the snow lit hard like a studio's, a face the picture's only warmth in a grey world, one red bell breaking the palette at the end.
