This pack belongs to the camaïeu series — a named world built around one colour worn ton sur ton, the room dyed to match the wardrobe. Karasu-zoku means the crow tribe: the name Tokyo gave the young people who dressed head to toe in black after Yohji Yamamoto's clothes reached the streets in the eighties. Aoyama's concrete and asphalt at night, the black-lacquered rooms of the old city, and a silhouette that refused every colour on offer.

The wardrobe is volume, not tailoring — an oversized black wool coat over black wide trousers and black boots, black layered linen under a black cotton-drill jacket, a black wool suit worn loose over a black shirt. Hair long and black, or cropped close. The palette is black, then more black: wet asphalt, black lacquer, charcoal held small. One sodium-yellow street lamp is the only colour the pack permits, and it is behind you.

Three takes carry the nine. Standing on wet black asphalt at night under a single sodium lamp, in the oversized wool coat.
