The Otaru register

Otaru in January belongs to the register the film Love Letter made known — the canal's stone warehouses under snow, gaslamps unlit in daylight, a white coat against a white sky, and the shout to the mountain that gets no answer back. This pack draws on that town and that gesture as a place and a mood: the hands cupped at the mouth, the breath visible, a white wool coat closed against the cold.

The technique is camaïeu — one white carried through the snow, the coat, and the sky, so garment and ground share a single value. Separation comes from texture alone: the wool's nap against the falling snow, the warehouse stone held to the same value behind, and a lifted scarf's end as the one note of movement the palette allows.

Three settings carry it: the canal path with the warehouses held to a value behind and snow falling, coat and snow separated by the wool's nap alone; a snow field with hands cupped at the mouth and the mountain white behind, breath visible; and a gaslamp half-length, snow on the shoulders and hair, the lamp unlit in daylight.

The result is a photoreal portrait — a photograph, not a painting or an illustration — built entirely from your own uploaded face. It borrows Otaru's canal and Love Letter's white-coat register as a costume and place reference; it is not a photograph of any actor or character from the film, and it doesn't claim to be. The face in every frame is yours.

How to photograph yourself for an Otaru snow photoshoot

Better source photos make better portraits. The pack works with an ordinary phone selfie — the free preview shows you the likeness in seconds — but a few things sharpen the result before the coat goes on.

  1. Even, soft lightStand near a window with indirect daylight on your face. The pack builds its own flat, snow-bright light on top — a well-lit selfie gives it the clearest face to start from.
  2. Front or three-quarter angleCamera at eye level, facing it or turned slightly to three-quarter. No selfie-stick uplook, no shot from below.
  3. Face fully clearHair off the face, no hats, no sunglasses, no filters in the source photo. A clear, front-facing photo is the best input for an AI portrait.
  4. A composed expressionThe Otaru register favors a soft, wistful look over a big grin — a calm expression in your source photo carries best into the snow frames.
  5. Plain background is fineDon't worry about your own backdrop — the pack's three settings replace it entirely. A plain wall behind you just helps the model focus on your face.

Frequently asked questions

Will it actually look like a real photograph?
Yes. The output is photoreal — a real photograph, not a painting or an illustration — built around a white wool coat, falling snow, and Otaru's canal warehouses, all rendered from your own uploaded face.
Is this a real photo of an actor from Love Letter, or of me?
It's a portrait of you. The pack borrows Otaru's canal and the white-coat register from the film Love Letter as a costume and place reference; it doesn't depict any actor or character from the film, and every frame is generated from your own uploaded face.
What's the difference between the free preview and the full pack?
The free preview is one photo from your uploaded face, shown in seconds so you can judge the likeness before committing. The full pack is nine photos across the canal path, a snow field, and a gaslamp — different crops, expressions, and light.
How is this different from a generic AI headshot tool?
A generic headshot tool defaults to a vague studio backdrop. This pack is built around one held colour and one specific town — white snow, white coat, canal warehouses — so it reads as a real place, not a stock backdrop.
Is this pack built for women?
Yes — the coat, the styling, and the sample set are cut for a woman's wardrobe. A men's version of this register isn't shipped in this pack.
What if my source photo isn't great?
One clear phone selfie is usually enough. The free preview shows you the likeness in seconds — if it's off, the prep tips above are the fastest fix, and lighting is the most common culprit.
Can I use it for a dating profile, a gift, or a print?
Yes — a dating profile photo is exactly what this pack is built for, and it works just as well as a print or a gift. It isn't licensed for commercial resale.
What happens to the photo I upload?
Your photo is processed on European servers to generate your preview and, if you continue, your full pack. It isn't sold or shared with third parties.
Do I need a real white wool coat for this to work?
No — the pack builds the wardrobe and the setting around your uploaded face. You don't need the coat, the snow, or Hokkaido in real life; that's what the photoshoot supplies.
Does the white register only work in January, or does it hold year-round?
The register — white snow, white coat, white sky — isn't tied to a calendar date; January in the world here just names the snowfall and the canal light.
Will the falling snow look real, or obviously generated?
The pack is built for photoreal output — the snow, the wool's nap, and the warehouse stone are rendered to read as an actual photograph, not a filter over your selfie.

About narcis

Most AI portrait tools ship every pose, profession, era, and aesthetic in one giant catalog. The output looks like every other AI photo on the internet — a glaze over a stock face. Narcis goes the other way. One tool, one job: turn photos of you into portraits worth keeping. Drop a selfie and your free preview streams in seconds — a quick sketch: close, not you yet. For portraits that are truly you, train your own model on 12 to 20 photos; it trains in the background, and we email you when it is ready. Train once, render everywhere — this pack, every other pack, and the Studio all come out of that one model, about ten seconds a portrait, and it stays yours to retrain or delete. Each pack is hand-curated against actual references — paintings, photographers, registers — and tested on real faces before it ships. See a free preview before you pay, not after. Packs are one-time — no subscription to buy one; Studio, the unlimited composer, is optional at €12/month and every pack includes 30 days of it. No template generator. Built and run by one team, on our own infrastructure.
