This pack is one of Etiquette's royal court photoshoot series — the Swan King of Bavaria, builder of Neuschwanstein and the Venus grotto at Linderhof, a monarch who lived inside his own opera. It's moon and candle light, the last fairy-tale court in Europe, staged by a king who dressed for the dream.

Photographically the register is late-nineteenth-century Bavarian court dress — a dark blue general's uniform with silver embroidery and the Order of Saint Hubert, a fur-lined blue velvet cloak for the sleigh, or a Louis XIV costume of blue velvet with a wig for the mirror hall. The palette runs blue, silver, moon white, gold, and Alpine snow.

Three scenes carry the pack: the Hall of Mirrors at Herrenchiemsee, candlelight doubled to infinity; a gilded sleigh under a full moon on a snowy Alpine road; the Venus grotto's coloured artificial light on a still painted lake.
