The Overcast Daylight Headshot register

This pack draws on the overcast sky as the largest softbox there is: even light, no squint, no shadow under the brow, colour true. An open courtyard or a quiet street, a plain wall behind, a grey day doing the work a studio otherwise has to fake.

Photographically the register is a wool coat over a knit, a blazer over a shirt, or a turtleneck — hair natural, palette of grey sky, pale wall, and the coat's own colour, no accent.

Three takes carry the pack: framed head-and-shoulders against a pale plaster wall in the wool coat over the knit, squared to the lens; turned three-quarter with the wall falling away behind, in the blazer over the shirt; and framed slightly wider in a courtyard with a doorway soft behind, in the turtleneck, hands in the pockets.
