The Mosaic Floors register

Paphos, the ancient harbour town on the west coast of Cyprus, has left its Roman villa floors open to the sky under light wooden roofs. The mosaics run from cream to umber, the stone is pale ochre, the grass is dry, a small fort stands on the harbour and the sea beyond is deep blue. The pack puts the archaeologist among the floors in an ochre linen jacket over a cream knit.
