The Opera gala photoshoot register

The Russian Collection at the Opera takes its world from the great gilded opera house of Paris on a gala night: red velvet and gold leaf, the grand staircase's marble, and a famous 1976 collection that dressed women like the ballet's Russian peasants and princesses, in gold brocade boleros, crimson taffeta skirts, braid and tasselled sashes.

Gold and crimson at matched saturation and unequal weight: crimson the taffeta and the theatre's velvet, gold the brocade and the walls' leaf. A gold brocade bolero sits over a crimson taffeta gown with a tasselled sash; the bolero's short square shoulder over the skirt's volume is the silhouette.
