The Emerald velvet photoshoot register

The Apartment on the rue de Babylone takes its world from a famous duplex on the Left Bank: deep rooms hung with dark pictures, lacquer screens, bronze and mirrors, walls and sofas in jewel colours, and lamplight warm and low. A house's evening colours came out of rooms like these.

A dark ground, held from bronze shadow to black lacquer, with one emerald worn as a velvet smoking jacket over a black silk camisole and echoed once in a drop earring. The jacket's sharp shoulder is the silhouette. She stands before a black lacquer screen, rests a hand on the gilt edge of a mirrored mantel, and takes the centre of the deep room as dark pictures, bronze and lacquer recede behind her. The light is low warm lamplight, with light only on the turned planes.
