The Scheherazade register
This pack draws on the Nights register — long dark hair loose under a sheer gold-edged veil, layered silk trousers and a fitted embroidered bodice under a gauze robe, gold coin jewellery at the brow, kohl, bare feet on carpet. The palette runs saffron, rose, lamp gold, indigo night, and silver moon — the vocabulary of the Thousand and One Nights themselves as a world: lamplit, silk, endlessly deferred.
Three situations carry the register: seated on the edge of a canopied divan in a lamplit chamber, one hand raised in the storyteller's gesture, an oil lamp on a brass tray; standing at a rooftop parapet under a thin crescent moon, veil lifting in warm wind, domes below in blue night; reclining among silk cushions as attendants lean in to listen, incense rising, a peacock fan nearby.
