The tatami straw register
A shiatsu room in a Tokyo machiya is a plain room of straw and paper: tatami mats gone gold-green, a paper screen throwing an even shadowless glow, a cedar lintel turning gold with age. Shiatsu is a practice of pressure through the clothes, and its practitioners have long worn loose cotton. The straw of this pack is the floor and the cotton, and a portrait in that colour reads as a therapist dressed in the floor he works on.
Photographically this is straw on straw: one warm gold for garment and mat, separated by woven texture and the even light of the paper screen rather than by contrast. The samue jacket is straw-coloured cotton with a crossed collar over a natural knit, and the face is the only other colour. Three settings carry the pack: seated on the tatami before the paper screen with the folded cotton futon beside him, standing at the cedar lintel with one hand on the wood and the mat receding, and at half-length in the machiya's lane with the lattice facade behind.
The output is photoreal: a real-looking photograph of you in the straw of the room.
How to photograph yourself for tatami straw bodywork portraits
An ordinary selfie is enough. A few habits sharpen the likeness before the screen's light and the straw go on top.
- Even, soft lightStand near a window with daylight on your face. Avoid overhead bulbs and phone flash.
- Front or three-quarter angleCamera at eye level, facing it or turned slightly. No shot from below.
- Face fully clearHair off the face, no sunglasses and no heavy filters. A clear, front-facing selfie is the best start.
- A natural expressionA calm, steady look carries over best into all three settings.
- Plain background is fineThe pack replaces your backdrop, so a plain wall is enough.
Frequently asked questions
- Will they look like real photographs?
- Yes. Every photo is photoreal, a real-looking photograph of you.
- Is this pack for men?
- Yes. The jacket and styling are cut for men, so the pack reads that way. Other packs on Narcis suit other looks.
- How is this different from a generic AI headshot?
- Most generic tools default to one flat studio backdrop. This pack builds one room across three different settings.
- Can I use it for a studio website or a professional profile?
- Yes, that is the pack's use: a profile, a website, a directory listing or a printed card. Check the terms before any resale of the images.
- Do I need several photos or is one enough?
- One clear, front-facing photo is enough. Even light on your face gives the clearest likeness.
- What if my photo is not great?
- Retake it in soft window light with your face fully clear. Light does more for the likeness than any other fix.
- What happens to the photo I upload?
- It is processed on servers in Frankfurt to generate your portraits.
- Who is shown in these images?
- Every image is AI-generated from your own face, which you chose to use. The pack is for adults aged 18 and over.
- Will the photos look like me?
- Every photo looks like you, well photographed. If one is nearly right, say what to change, in your own words.
- Do I have to write a prompt?
- No. There is nothing to write: you pick a pack, and it is ready in seconds.
- How many photos of myself do I add?
- Between six and twenty, from different days and in different light, with your face clear. We check each one when you add it.
- What happens to the photos I add?
- They are used only to create your model, on our own servers in the European Union. They are not shared and not sold.

About narcis
Most AI photo tools put every pose, job, era, and style in one giant catalog. The photos all look like every other AI photo on the internet — a glaze over a stock face. Narcis goes the other way. One job: photos of you that look like photographs. You add at least 6 photos of yourself, and we create your AI model from them. Your photos are ready in a few hours, and we email you when they are. Then this pack and every other pack on Narcis can be made with your face. Each pack is curated against real references — paintings, photographers, places — and tested on real faces before it goes live. Built and run by one small team, on our own servers.
All images are AI-generated. By using this service, you confirm you are 18+, that any face photo you upload is your own or used with explicit consent. Full Terms
