This pack borrows its register from a ballet company's wardrobe room: tulle is a net so fine it is mostly air, and blush tulle in ten layers is a cloud that goes deeper pink where the layers stack and pale where they thin. The wardrobe is tulle from bodice to floor — a ball skirt and bodice, a layered gown, a midi skirt with a wrap top — against blush tutus on stands and bolts of tulle, so the picture reads as one blush at every depth with the face its only other colour.

Photographically the separation is ton sur ton: garment and ground share the hue, and texture, specular highlight, and the direction of light carry it instead — soft daylight reads a stacked skirt as a deep pink against a thinner tutu's pale stand, overhead light flattens a spread gown into a pale pool against a bodice's darker gather, warm backlight glows through a curtain and a skirt together, the body a shadow inside pink.
