The Harun al-Rashid register
This pack draws on the Abbasid-caliph register — a dark beard, a black turban and black silk robe with gold-embroidered borders, a jewelled dagger, a signet ring, and for the souk a plain brown cloak and hood. The palette runs Abbasid black, gold, lapis, brass, and night indigo — the vocabulary of the caliph whose court became legend as the Thousand and One Nights, drawn here from the real Baghdad rather than the fable alone.
Three situations carry the register: standing among scholars at long tables of scrolls and brass astrolabes in the House of Wisdom; walking a plain hooded cloak among lamplit souk stalls of copper and silk, hood back, face clear; seated on a dais in black and gold before a brass water-clock as Frankish envoys bow.
