The Joachim Murat register
This pack draws on Joachim Murat's campaigns and court, 1807 to 1815 — the innkeeper's son who became King of Naples, the leopard-skin saddle, a hat of white ostrich plumes, the uniform he designed himself in every colour. The value is Napoleonic France's most flamboyant marshal at his three documented settings.
Photographically the register is cold smoke and winter light for the charge, hard Naples sun for the terrace, warm camp light for the tent; the palette runs sky blue, scarlet, gold, plume white, leopard print.
