This pack draws on General Lasalle and the Grande Armée's light cavalry, 1806 to 1809 — the hussar who said a man not dead by thirty is a blackguard, the pipe, the plaited hair, five hundred horsemen bluffing a fortress into surrender. The value is Napoleonic swagger at its three documented settings.
Photographically the register is warm firelight and blue dusk for the bivouac, hard gold dust for the charge, low gold evening for the gate; the palette runs dark blue, silver braid, black fur, sky-blue breeches, dust gold.
