Khaki was never a fashion decision. It was camouflage that became a wardrobe.

The clothes are the working kit, not a costume-shop approximation: a khaki cotton-drill safari jacket with khaki shorts and a khaki felt hat, a khaki linen shirt over olive-khaki trousers, a canvas field vest across a sand-khaki shirt. Hair short, the face sun-lined. The palette runs khaki, dry grass, dust, acacia bark and olive-khaki, and a single red beaded bracelet is the only colour permitted in the frame.
