Nine photographs of you in one setting: one pack of the Narcis catalogue.

The Above the Clouds register
Above the cloud sea on Mauna Kea, the observatory domes open at dusk and the cinder cones turn violet. It is the hour before the night's work, and it is the portrait of the astronomer in the pack: bundled for the cold, the sky already darkening.
Three photographs. Outside a dome, the indigo parka zipped to the chin and the dome's slit opening on the sky behind. Leaning on the railing of the catwalk, the cloud sea spreading below with a far peak breaking through. And at half-length on the cinder road, a row of domes along the ridge and the first stars faint above.
The whole summit is dyed one colour: indigo twilight, domes that turn white to blue, cinder ground darkened to blue-black. The last light is low from the horizon and cool. The observatories are international, so the pack suits anyone.
How to take source photos for the Above the Clouds pack
Better source photos make better portraits. A few things sharpen the likeness before the wardrobe and the setting go on top.
- Even, soft lightStand near a window with indirect daylight on your face. Avoid overhead bulbs and phone flash; both flatten the face.
- Front or three-quarter angleCamera at eye level, facing it or turned slightly. No shot from below, no wide-angle close-up.
- Face fully clearHair off the face, no hats or sunglasses. A clear, front-facing photo gives the most of you to work with.
- A calm, attentive lookAn astronomer at dusk looks thoughtful and unhurried. A quiet, focused expression in your source photos fits the mood.
- Plain background is fineDo not worry about your own backdrop. The pack's three settings replace it entirely.
Frequently asked questions
- Is this taken at a real observatory?
- The setting is built from Mauna Kea's summit: cinder ground, white domes opening, the cloud sea below and the dusk sky. The portrait is you, placed in it.
- Why is everything blue?
- The pack follows the colour of twilight at altitude. The parka, the domes and the sky share one indigo family and are told apart by texture.
- Does it work as a scientist headshot?
- Yes. It reads as research, outdoors and serious, which suits an academic or science-communication profile.
- Will the photos look like me?
- Every photo looks like you, well photographed. If one is nearly right, say what to change, in your own words.
- Do I have to write a prompt?
- No. There is nothing to write: you pick a pack, and it is ready in seconds.
- How many photos of myself do I add?
- Between six and twenty, from different days and in different light, with your face clear. We check each one when you add it.
- What happens to the photos I add?
- They are used only to create your model, on our own servers in the European Union. They are not shared and not sold.
When the Above the Clouds pack fits
- A scientist headshot for a university page, a lab site or a conference programme
- A researcher profile photo for an astronomy, physics or earth-science career
- A portrait for a book jacket, a podcast cover or a science-communication channel
- A profile picture for someone who looks at the sky for a living, or wishes they did
- A gift for an amateur astronomer with a telescope in the hall
About narcis
Most AI photo tools put every pose, job, era, and style in one giant catalog. The photos all look like every other AI photo on the internet — a glaze over a stock face. Narcis goes the other way. One job: photos of you that look like photographs. You add at least 6 photos of yourself, and we create your AI model from them. Your photos are ready in a few hours, and we email you when they are. Then this pack and every other pack on Narcis can be made with your face. Each pack is curated against real references — paintings, photographers, places — and tested on real faces before it goes live. Built and run by one small team, on our own servers.
